how it works:
hypocaust heaters are an extension of the tile stove in the form of surface heaters in walls and floors. the source of heat ist located in the center of the house. air as a carrier of heat circulates by way of gravity or a ventilator in a closed pipe system and heats the radiating surfaces of fire-clay panels.

  • healthy room temperature with warmth you can feel
  • fulfils the strictest ecological criteria in regard to production, operation and disposal
  • the ideal solution for environmentally-concerned people who care about the quality of life and want to build with good value for their money

origin and use in the past:
hypocaust heating systems are known mainly from their common use in roman baths and villas. in these installations, flue gases were channeled from a heat source outside (präfurnium) to a hollow space under the floor (hypocaustum) where they mixed with the air and warmed the walls by travelling along clay canals (tubuli) which were open underneath.

the chimney flue was situated on the opposite wall. a fire on the side of the room where the chimney was located got the system going. the mixture of air and flue gases did not come into contact with the air in the room.
